"Who cares what becks does now; he is just another washed up athlete the corporations use to sale their garbage to the people, and the media feeds it to us. Every sport has these types of players, it makes me sick to care."
In response to the potential loaning of 34 year old soccer icon David Beckham from LA Galaxy to AC Milan.

Hard For Life To Live Up To The Dream
F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby (1928)
"There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled short of his dreams – not through her own fault, but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion. It had gone beyond her, beyond everything. He had thrown himself into it with a creative passion, adding to it all the time, decking it out with every bright feather drifted his way. No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart."

For An Ape, Born Twice is Redundant
Tom Robbins, Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas
"Animals – perhaps most especially intelligent animals – do not share man’s pathetic need to socialize bliss, codify awe, pigeonhole the Mystery, and tame the Divine. For an ape, born twice is completely redundant, since an ape gets it right the first time."

Am I Am Who I Say I Am, Or Who I Am?
Nathaniel Hawthorne
"No man for any considerable period can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true."

Jacking Up Your Appetite
"Say what you like about the misery of hard labor – but it can jack up your appetite to the point where eating takes on a kind of holiness."

Hugh Jones, 1724
"If New England be called the Receptacle of Dissenters… Pennsylvania the Nursery of Quakers, Maryland the Retirement of Roman Catholics, North Carolina the Refuge of Run-aways, and South Carolina the Delight of Buccaneers and Pirates, Virginia may be justly esteemed the happy Retreat of true Britons."

Best Things in the World
Gregory David Roberts, novel "Shantaram" (2003)
'You're a good listener. That's dangerous, because it's so hard to resist. Being listened to - really listened to - is the second-best thing in the world.'
'What's the first-best thing?'
'Everybody knows that. The best thing in the world is power.'
'Oh is it?" I asked laughing. "What about sex?'
'No, apart from biology, sex is all about power. That's why it's such a rush.'
I laughed again.
'And what about love? A lot of people say love is the best thing in the world, not power.'
'They're wrong,' she said with a terse finality. 'Love is the opposite of power. That's why we fear it so much.'
Conversation between the narrator and his love.

Male Loyalty Is...
Gregory David Roberts, novel "Shantaram" (2003)
"For his part, Abdullah never told me what the fight against those men was about, and I never asked him. The one time we did talk of it, years later, he told me that he began to love me on that day. He loved me, he said, not because I joined the fight, but because I never once asked him what it was about. He admired that, he said, more than anything else he ever knew about me."
The narrator had joined in on a fight to defend his friend Abdullah. His friend was in danger and needed him, and that's all he needed to know.

Meaning in Life?
Gregory David Roberts, novel "Shantaram" (2003)
"We’re all driven by a desire to find meaning in life. We have to know what it’s all about. If it was just sex or power we’d still be chimpanzees. It’s meaning that makes us human beings."
Shantaram is a story based on the real events of Gregory David Roberts, a convicted Australian bank-robber that escapes from prison and flees to India, where he becomes consumed by the criminal underworld of Mumbai. Terrific.

Cee-lo Green of Goodie MOb, "Thought Process" Soul Food (1995)

'Bout twenty dollars away from being on the street
Shit, you might see a nigga on tv
But hell it's almost like I'm rappin' for free
That little money be gone...god dammit, I'm grown
Gotta help keep the heat and lights on
It would be nice to have more but I kinda like being poor
At least I know what my friends here for."

8Ball &MJG: Wonder Why We Act How We Act?
8Ball & MJG "Throw Your Hands up" In Our Lifetime (2003)
Now I heard that the South is where yo folks from,
Down in the bottoms where they broke some,
Whips cross a nigga back, way back,
And now they wonder why we act, how we act,
Gold teeth and heavy chevys, and talking slow,
Afros & loud ass Italian clothes,
People bar-be-quein in the front yard
Money from the first of the month card!"
Ever thought about that? We can't forget our past and the effects it still has. 8Ball & MJG are another of the southern hip-hop groups that just ooze the soul and funk, with a lil message to boot.

OutKast is Extraterrestrial: Out of this World
Andre 3000, Outkast "Extraterrestrial" off their 2nd album, Atliens (1996)
"Right now I'm smiling
Taking advantage of this moment
'Cause there might not be another soon
Holding on to memories like roller-coaster handle bars
Tightly cause I'm slightly off my rocker--But to you
I may appear to be your average Joe
But little do you know
That even Joe got problems that he's got to joust with
Floating in this game of life
Despite how out of place you may feel
In this race, oh you just can't quit
Ain't that a bitch--that be in heat
I'm on the beat like cops
Only cultivate the stable dirt when I skeet my drops
No concentrating, knocking other niggas out the box
Why?--Cause in a sense
See we all be kind of fly
Just can't be scared to spread your wings
Head to better things
Maybe the mockingbird and nightingale
They want to sing--keeping this thing alive
To the table's what we bring
We like hailstorms and blizzards in the middle of the spring
Extraterrestrial
Out of this world."

Round 7. The South Got Something To Say, That's All I Got to Say
Andre 3000, Outkast "Millenium" off their 2nd album, Atliens (1996)
"Me and everything around me, is unstable like Chernobyl
Ready to go at any moment, jumpin' like a pogo stick
Life never lived up to my expectations, so I accept the patience
Expect the worse but now I'm pacin'
Back and forth, inside, I'm melting like water on wicked witches
A monster truck done came and ran over my picket fences
I had the best of life in my clinches but monkey wrenches was thrown
Like chairs kings sit on, my prayers seem to long
I fall asleep before the endin', don't even get to say Amen
I hope He understand I be on bended knees
At times, I think I'm crazy, then I say forget it
Or maybe it's the devil infiltrating and like Riddick...Bowe
I've been fighting this since them fetus days
I count from one to twenty, when I'm through, repeat the phrase
It's just a phase, it's gonna all pass, but that gets old too
I'm weakening like a deacon doin' dirt
What am I supposed to do?"
Listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wG6seogAnFo
As long as you read that carefully, there's not a whole lot I need to say. Except that Andre 3000 is the best, and can put more in one verse than some can put in an entire career. And the best part, all of their songs are like this. Hailing from Atlanta, Outkast is a duo comprised of Andre Benjamin and "Big Boi" Antwan Patton. Along with a group of fellow artists known as the Dungeon Family(Organized Noize Productions, the Goodie Mob) they forged the genre of Southern hip-hop in the mid-90's. Funky, soulful, and revolutionary, there has been and never will be anything else this good. More to come from them, I promise.
